Objectives: Unlike the United States and the United Kingdom, in Korea, there has been no discussion or research on the core competencies of family counselors considering socio-cultural characteristics. This study attempted to construct core competency items of Korean family counselors that can be used in supervision through expert Delphi research.
Methods: To this end, basic questions of core competencies were extracted by referring to previous overseas studies related to core competencies of family counselors, and then a Delphi survey was conducted twice with 20 Korean family counseling supervisors.
Results: The initial questionnaire consisted of four categories, 20 sub-domains, and 74 questions through extraction of common categories from previous studies. After investigating twice, the questionnaire was reorganized into four categories, 10 sub-domains, and 44 questions as its final form.
Conclusions: The authors discussed some unique aspects of Delphi survey results of Korean supervisors and suggested several prospective uses of the core competencies.
